Hi xxxxx, Back was out for the past day or so, sorry for not responding in a more timely fashion. Glad to have been of help. Re the militia-patriot community response to this. The reactions have not been much different from the country as a whole. There is a general rallying to the cause and a cautious support of what the government has been doing so far. As best I can tell there is almost no one who wouldn't support going after the bastards with everything we have. That having been said - there is also caution that this might be used as an avenue to curtail even more rights, and give the government more unconstitutional sweeping powers as was done post OKC. I chose 3 posts/editorials that taken together give a pretty good representation of what I said above. Hope this helps. If you or your history teacher friends need any more info, just ask. Utah Gun Owners Alliance joins with all Utahns and all Americans in mourning the terrible tragedies that occurred yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the dead, the injured, and their families - and to our elected leaders who will be making some difficult decisions in the days and months ahead. While we feel obligated to point out that much of the carnage could have been prevented by armed citizens, law enforcement officers, or sky marshals, we also believe that there are no simplistic solutions to terrorism. Remember that ordinary ammunition is considered hazardous on an airplane because it will penetrate the hull and lead to depressurization. And firing a gun in an extremely cramped and crowded plane also risks injury to innocent passengers. More relevant is the fact that Americans have been indoctrinated to be good victims. We're told over and over again that we should never resist criminals, that we should passively submit to being robbed, raped, mugged, or hijacked. Women's centers teach women not to fight back, even though fighting back with a firearm is the most effective way to avoid injury. Employers require their employees to be disarmed, and to agree to whatever a criminal demands. Those of us who are willing to take responsibility for our own safety are shunned, persecuted, and generally made to feel like second class citizens who are not welcome in "civilized society". The reason that a few hijackers armed only with knives and box cutters were able to murder tens of thousands of innocent people is less a problem of physically disarmed passengers, and more a problem of psychologically disarmed passengers. Had the passengers been taught that fighting back is the honorable and appropriate response to thugs, things would likely have turned out differently. It now appears that this is exactly what happened on the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania - the passengers attempted to subdue the hijackers. They gave their lives, but prevented the deaths of countless others, and the possible destruction of Camp David, the White House or the Capitol. They upheld our proud tradition of American heroism. In a pinch, pocket knives, cell phones, pens, books, laptop computers, keys, etc. can all be used as weapons. All that's needed is the will and courage to fight back. We do not say this to dishonor the dead, who almost certainly had no idea of what the terrorists planned. We're sure that had they known, they would have willingly sacrificed their lives to save thousands of others. We will probably never know how many heroic people did exactly that. But we must resolve - right here, right now - that we will stop our idolatrous worship of safety above all else, and return to the values of individual responsibility, community responsibility, courage, and resistance to evil that made our nation great. In the days and months ahead, we expect to see unprecedented attacks on our G-d given rights - not just the right to keep and bear arms, but the rights of free speech, of assembly, of privacy, of travel, and of due process. We expect to see calls for more gun control, more Carnivore type surveillance of the internet, more wiretaps and surveillance of cell phone traffic, more warrantless searches and seizures, more face recognition technology, more fingerprinting, more restrictions on peaceful assembly, and increasing demands for some sort of high-tech method to track everything each and every person does. We must have the courage to oppose these attacks on our rights. We cannot preserve our freedom by destroying it. If we allow the acts of vicious criminals to turn the United States into a police state, they will have won, and we will lose everything. Nearly 250 years ago, Benjamin Franklin wrote: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety". Yesterday, President Bush said: "America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining." We pray he keeps his word. Not only must we not give up our essential liberty for false promises of safety, we must ensure that our nation remains that "brightest beacon for freedom". Utah Gun Owners Alliance suggests the following: Write to your Congressman, Senators, and state legislators and let them know that you are not willing to sacrifice your liberty for promises of safety, and that you expect them to protect and defend our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Also let them know that so long as our government protects our liberties, we will support them 100% in the difficult days ahead. Check your preparedness status. Do you have adequate food, water, medical supplies, lighting, batteries, radios, and self defense equipment should you need them? We're not trying to be alarmist here, but we think citizens have the obligation to be prepared to be useful and self sufficient in time of crisis, rather than becoming additional burdens on social services. Fly your flag! It's simple, free, shows your support for our country, and will encourage your neighbors to get into the patriotic spirit. If you're in good enough health to donate blood, please give the gift of life. Also consider donating to the religious and charitable organizations that are helping victims. The American Red Cross web site has a lot of information at www.redcross.org Don't stoop to hatred based on anyone's nationality, ethnicity or religion. Justice is the most noble of human endeavors. Bigotry is not. Don't let terrorists define our nation, and make sure that those who died did not die in vain! Pray for wisdom, courage, and strength for the injured, the families of victims, President Bush, our Congress, and all Americans. May G-d bless America, land of the FREE, home of the BRAVE. Copyright 2001 Sarah Thompson, M.D. ---------------------------------- By Neal Knox WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 12) -- Terrorists took advan- tage of the ultimate "gun free zone" yesterday morning to bring the nation to its knees. The stupid notion that evil, vicious killers can be deterred by preventing law-abiding American citizens from having guns made it easy for terrorists who were armed with nothing more than small knives. With those small knives a handful of well-trained kamikaze warriors -- backed by anonymous multi-national powers -- killed and wounded many thousands of Americans, utterly destroyed the World Trade Center, damaged the Penta- gon, shut down the entire airline system, closed the stock market, crippled the nation's communications network and sent a warning that more is to come. Yesterday's terrorist success will inspire more ef- forts, and countless more Holy Jihad warriors ready to kill and transport themselves to a bevy of virgins in Paradise. Sure that's an unverified conclusion, but what terrorists except muslim fanatics use suicide bombers? Terrorism always escalates. Yesterday was a few small knives. Tomorrow may be a crude nuclear device in a shipping container, or a vial of sarin or anthrax spilled in Ameri- ca's heartland. Other terrorists -- not political terrorists but indi- viduals who spread terror just as effectively -- have also taken advantage of "gun-free zones": in U.S. Post Offices, in offices like 101 California Ave., in churches like the Baptist congregation in Fort Worth, in restaurants like Luby's in Killeen, and most heart- wrenching of all, in schools like Stockton and Columbine. Yet in the next few days political opportunists like Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein will do their utmost to create more "gun-free zones." It will probably start as soon as the recessed Congress convenes, for the Commerce, Justice and State Appropriations bill -- always a target for restrictive gun amendments -- is on the Senate floor. People became afraid to fly -- one of the objects of yesterday's terrorists -- during the plague of skyjackings in the early 1970's. The government's quick fix was to hire Sky Marshals who, anonymously but with great publicity, rode airliners at random, prepared to shoot any would-be skyjack- er. That dampened the enthusiasm to divert an airliner to Cuba, though I don't remember any Sky Marshal firing a shot. Sky Marshals were replaced by the "permanent fix," the costly, airline passenger screening system which is easily evaded -- as shown in numerous television exposes, countless government tests, and yesterday's horrors. The present security system, which Congress mandated but made airline passengers pay for, created "gun-free cockpits." That put a stop to many airline pilots' personal anti- skyjacking system: a Chief's Special .38 tucked among the charts and approach plates in the pilots' "brain bags." The randomly armed pilots system could have stopped -- or made more difficult -- yesterday's skyjackings with knives. At minimum, flight crews with the skills and desire to protect themselves, their passengers and innocents on the ground should immediately be allowed to have the means to do it. There will be an orgy of anti-terrorism bills in Con- gress, and like the last one -- after the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing -- drawing every cockamamie gun proposal imagin- able. The new anti-terrorism bills, just like like the ones before, will undoubtedly call for further expansion of government powers and blatantly disregard personal freedoms -- not just the Second Amendment but the Fourth, Fifth and other Constitutional protections. This morning's Washington Post flashed Congress a green light with an overnight poll that allegedly showed "Two in three were willing to surrender 'some of the liberties we have in this country' to crack down on terrorism." And if that happens, the terrorists -- who hate the freedoms this nation still enjoys -- will have won. The way to defeat them is not to circumscribe Ameri- cans' freedoms, but the freedom of the terrorists -- by Congress formally declaring war on the terrorist organiza- tions and their backer states. Forget the legalism by which we ask a world court to try the terrorists' colleagues and sponsors, as we did in the Pan Am 103 bombing. Make war, as war is being waged against us, on the known anti- American terrorism groups. And not just against front men like Osama Bin Laden. Yesterday's horrors were too expensive, too well- planned and coordinated to have been conceived and carried out by any one individual or group. Governments must have been involved, and we can find out who -- if we have the courage, and the willingness to defend ourselves against the war being waged against us. ----------------- Dear Mr. Bush and fellow Americans: http://disc.server.com/discussion.cgi?id=149495&article=9218 Lorri Ellen Carr Dear Mr. Bush and fellow Americans: Fri Sep 14 17:47:00 2001 RE: The Sept. 11th attack should never have happened! Dear Mr. Bush and fellow Americans: People all over the country are being asked to offer words of support to our president, and shows of unity. I offer this, in support of all Americans. This is our wake-up call. The vast bulk of our government has been far too busy terrorizing our own sovereign people to pay attention to what it is supposed to be doing, which is ensuring our national security. It has instead created national insecurity, both within and from without. Now we are being asked for our support, while fools and media talk of a police state (as if that would offer us any "safety" from terrorists). Certainly I don't think anyone in this country fails to see that cohesiveness is needed. So, here is my suggestion to our government: BACK OFF AND START DOING YOUR REAL JOB. Now, please. We American sovereigns will do our part; I have observed that there have not even been any reports of looting yet, instead many heroic efforts by so many people. Perhaps this was a harsh dose of reality. So, do you want the support of families? Then stop (STOP NOW) paying DSS to steal them from parents without cause. Give back the children of America to their own families. Now. Stop forcing the drugging of schoolchildren. Right now. Want the support of farmers? Stop destroying them, leave them alone to get back to the vital job of feeding our people. Stop harassing them over made-up "environmental" issues which all intelligent people recognize as false excuses for more controls. Give them back their water and grazing rights. Now. Want the support of free people? Stop incarcerating and criminalizing people for non-crimes. Those who commit real crimes are so often released (when they should not be) to reoffend against innocent people, yet ironically the jails are filled with people against whom no citizen has even offered a complaint. Start turning over the incriminating documents, and prosecuting acts of treason committed by officials. Now. Want patriotism? Stop persecuting patriots. Now. Tell the whiners and frightened rabbits who are thinking that a police state can "protect" them to shut up and get with the program. Apologize (sincerely - we can tell the difference) for Waco, Ruby Ridge, and all of the recent similar events which should shock people more than any outside terrorist attack. Now, please; it is long overdue. While you are at it, prosecute all who were in any way responsible for those terrorist attacks, too. Want a secure nation and support for the military? Tell the mindless gun control freaks that their party is over. Give us all of our guaranteed rights back, now. Get our military (and our homeland) back out from under foreign U.N. control. Right now. Want the financial support of Americans? Stop the wholesale government agency confiscation of land and property. Give it back. Now. While you are at it, give back our public lands which the federal government cannot even lawfully "own". We would be impressed. A people who truly have no private property have nothing left which they want to give you. Want to see enthusiam and cohesive support? Want us to demand justice for the crime of terrorism that was committed? Then give us back our due process, lawful courts, and constitutional rights. Reinstate justice in our own courts, right here in America. Why should we be outraged at what happened, when many of us have had things just as life-shattering happen to us already at the hands of such entities as the family courts? In short, sir, give us back the kind of government our country is supposed to have, and we will give you support the likes of which you have never dreamed. We Americans love our country and our countrymen, no matter how persistent the divisive elements have been in trying to change these facts. We have all been issued a challenge. Our question is, are you on our side? Lorri Ellen Carr, sui juris all rights reserved, without prejudice state of Washington
